Everyone loves luxury. Tools that make life simpler are always welcome. Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is one such tool that has caught on rapidly, simply because it is really simple??? to use like the name suggests.

What is RSS? RSS brings updated information straight to your desktop. All you have to do is subscribe to them and you will be intimated as and when there are updates. You can now keep yourself abreast of news, blogs, job listings, personals and classifieds with the least of efforts from your end.

Websites now are updated continually; sometimes, several times a day. RSS saves you the trouble of going over to websites regularly. Instead, whenever there is an update you are intimated almost instantly. Thus, this certainly is a really simple???, hassle free process of conveying information.

Increasing traffic, gathering and distributing news are some of the common problems that webmasters face. RSS is a simple solution for all. It is a lightweight XML format for sharing headlines and other web content. Each RSS text file contains both static information about your site and dynamic information in the form of new content from time to time.

RSS is another language by itself. But it is the end product that one is looking for. You can conveniently ignore the code just like the source code behind a webpage.

Types of RSS readers

Standalone readers

Standalone applications simply process RSS feeds. It is a new application that you can populate as much as you want. However, you are going to have to keep this additional application open on your desktop.

In a standalone reader, you will notice a toolbar with 3 window panes much like the preview mode in Microsoft Outlook. The subscribed RSS feeds are displayed towards the left side which can be organized into folders and categories. The upper-right panel shows the list of articles under the category selected while the lower-right panel shows the content of the article. Some standalone applications can be configured to send you an email or dialog popup window as and when there is an update.

Plug-in readers

Plug-in applications work within an existing program like Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer or Firefox. The reader merely becomes a new component of the application already opened. However, in case you have already clogged your system with many bookmarks and favorites, feeds might be an overload into your application.

For plug-in readers, a column for channels and a display area for a headline, a brief description and a URL are included in the desired application. In case of Microsoft Outlook, display only the headlines and summaries within the e-mail application and open an internet explorer to display the full content. In case of Internet Explorer application, the chosen article is automatically displayed within the browser. However, this tends to replace your Favorites bookmark collection.

How do you subscribe to an RSS feed?

Here are simple steps that you have to follow in order to subscribe to an RSS feed:

??? Click the feed button of the desired webpage.

??? Copy (right click and select copy) the URL from the address bar (http://…) of your browser, which should show a page full of XML code

??? Now go to your newsreader, choose the category where you want this particular feed to be placed. Example: Sports, Entertainment, Academics etc.

??? From the File menu, select New or New Channel. In most cases, the URL will get automatically pasted in the wizard, else, manually paste (right click and select paste) the link yourself.

??? Then, follow the instructions provided. This will differ based on the newsreader chosen by you.

The reader will take care of the rest, once you have pasted the URL link. It will provide you with updates once the link has been fed in.

Customize options

When too many articles are accumulated through various feed subscriptions, the process of searching becomes difficult. For this, there is a Filter/Search bar. Type in keywords and the reader will throw up articles that contain your keywords. To go back to the full article list, click the drop down control for the filter bar and set the keyword to None.

You can also save an article by selecting Copy to News Bin??? option from the Edit menu. This can be accessed from the left hand panel.

There are several RSS reader software products in the market. They have interfaces that look resemble e-mail programs. Some of them are free while others are available at a reasonable cost.

Aggie, Ampheta Desk, Awasu, Feed Demon, Feed Reader, Headline Viewer, News Gator, Newzcrawler, Radio UserLand, Syndirella, Wildgrape NewsDesk, Web-Based Aggregators, Bloglines, Google Reader, Gregarius, My Yahoo, News Is Free, Rocket RSS Reader (RocketNews) are some of the most common RSS readers. You can use these readers to subscribe to feeds.

Some of the readers have the ability to set a watch, that is, an automatic search through all your incoming feeds for a specific keyword. Whenever a feed has the keyword specified by you, it is put in the watch list so that you can read up on your most sought after articles.

Over a period of time, you will have more RSS feeds in your reader than you can possible keep track of. Simply delete the title to do away with a feed you???re no longer interested in. If you delete a feed permanently like this, you will not receive any updates or information from the particular publisher unless you re-subscribe to the feed.

There are several web directories of RSS software available online. So if you are looking at feeds related to specific topics, you can run a search to find dozens of links pertaining to what you are looking at.

All in all, RSS is a technology combined with convenience. This amazing combination ensures that you get all the information you want on a silver platter by the blink of the eye! It helps you keep up with information in today???s fast paced world. Get started with RSS now!

. Free blogging sites are popping up everywhere and finding one that meets your every need is simpler than you may think. The key to utilizing a free blogging service is finding one that Google likes and will index often to increase your exposure.

Blogger

Probably one of the most simple free blogging sites to set up and use on the Internet is Blogger. The site integrates Goggle Adsense ads quickly and easily and is botted often for higher page ranks. The trouble with Blogger is in the functionality of the site. As a free blogging site, blogger offers every basic need for a beginner blogger, for more details visit to www.your-own-blog.com but the abilities to change the look and feel of the blog are minimal at best. Blogger also does not allow the user to add posts for future publication which can leave the blogger logging in every day to deal with updating the blog.

WordPress Free Blogs

WordPress free blogging site, on the other hand, offers more than enough control for the beginning blogger to the advanced blogger. WordPress is offered as a content management system (costs money) and a free blogging site. The free site, while it does not have all of the perks of the for pay software, for more details visit to www.blog-and-ping.com is a great choice when the blogger wants a bit more control over their blog. WordPress allows for time stamping of future blog posts and a wealth of free blog skins. The integrated widgets that can be added to your blog round out this free blogging sites package.

Live Journal

One of the oldest free blogging sites is Live Journal. Live Journal is run by the creators of MSN and thus shows well on the MSN search engines. Live Journal approaches blogging from a different angle than many other free blogging sites. The blogs are called spaces and are all a part of a larger community. The ads placed on the spaces??? are not linked to the user and thus the revenue earned stays with MSN.

Finding a free blogging service to meet your needs is only a search away. You will come up with literally hundreds of free blogging sites. If you want a site that is the best for a beginning blogger or one that gives freedom to the seasoned blogger, these free blogging sites are the top of the line.

Have you always been envious of those that could somehow choose a niche without almost any thought? Now you don???t have to be. I wish I had realized this process I??~m about to show you earlier when I first started building websites online.

I can understand you being sceptical about how to choose a niche topic. However, you won???t be once you read what I have for you in relationship to choosing a niche topic to build your first wordpress blog around. Patience is a virtue, and for those that have been able to stay with me this far, the good stuff is coming!

What I???m about to show is how to choose a niche in a way that you haven???t been exposed to yet.

I call it the Process Of Elimination.

Let???s first explore some opportunities you might be interested in. To do this write down at least 10 things you are interested in doing as an online business on a piece of paper. By doing this you getting your ideas out of your head and on something you can work with. That???s the first step.

Next, start breaking down the list you just wrote to 5. You see how this works yet?

Now with the remanding 5, break that down to 3.

With only 3 remaining now all you have to do is choose one of the 3.

Do you see how the Process Of Elimination works now?

I found this process really helpful and easy to employ because either way you look at it with the decision you make it???s a niche topic you have an interest in and spending some time on as a online business.

Now if you plan on building several niche wordpress blogs I recommend you keep that list handy so you can apply the same technique to the remainder on the list. This will help you keep on track and focused on your projects.

With so many niche topics to build a website around online it gets difficult to sometimes make a decision on which niche topic to start with first which is why I use this process above and am sharing it with you now. And it took less then an hour to do.

So what do you do next?

Keyword Research!

This is the last step of the Process Of Elimination and the most important. Why would you want to build a wordpress blog or any website for that matter if there???s no market for it. We???re building these sites for a reason and that is to make some money.

So with that said its time now to do our Keyword Research homework.

I use Googles free keyword research tool do this step. It???s easy to use and gives you some valuable stats about what people are searching for online under your selected keywords or niche topic.

Go to ?? https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

If your keywords or niche topic produce high search counts and lots of adwords advertisers then you???ve found yourself a profitable niche topic to start building a website or wordpress blog around. If it is the other way around, start the process above over again with your remaining niche topics you wrote down earlier.

Those are the basics of how this technique works. I could keep on going about the keyword research end of things but that???s an article within itself. Start with this first.

You???ll find after doing this a few times it gets much easier because you???ll be familiar with how the process works.

I wish you nothing but the best in your pursuit of choosing your first niche topic. I have faith that with my tips above you are going to be able to achieve it all in only less then an hour.

In this age of computers, people are looking for information on the internet and they visit various websites where the particular piece of information they want is found. Hence, it is necessary for websites to generate as much traffic as possible to their websites. SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process used to improve the volume and the quality of traffic to a website from search engines via natural search results which are either organic or algorithmic. If a site appears earlier in the search engine, it will have more traffic and more users. There are different types of searches like image search, vertical search or local search that is targeted by the SEO. SEO through internet marketing strategy finds out what people search for and how the search engines work.

The main thing to do to optimize traffic to a website would be to edit its contents and HTML coding, so that the relevance to specific key words is increased and the barriers to the indexing activities of search engines is removed. Many techniques are used by search engine optimizers to make a website search engine friendly. They use website designs, menus, content management systems and shopping carts to optimize easily.

SEO techniques can be broadly classified into two groups : the White Hat SEO and the Black Hat SEO. White Hat SEO uses techniques approved of by the search engines and Black Hat SEO uses techniques that are not approved by the search engines.

White Hat SEO adopt techniques that last for a long time and produce results slowly when compared to Black Hat SEO???s. The White Hat SEO also conforms to all the guidelines that are specified by the search engines and there is no question of deception Care is taken to see that the content indexed and ranked by the search engine is the same content that is seen by the user. According to White Hat SEO, the content is created for the user and not for the search engines. The content should be easily available to the spiders and it should trick the algorithm for the necessary purpose.

In White Hat SEO the content in the website is the only factor that increases traffic to a website. The contents should be fresh, interesting, informative and very attractive to the user. It tracks the users and keeps them prepared for any type of challenges.

A few of the techniques used by White Hat SEO???s are original and pertinent content, article content, director content, request site feedback, making back links, making business blogs, make site mappings, RSS feed etc.

The advantage of RSS feed is that the content of a site or weblog can be seen without going to the home page. The XML file format is used and works well for news sites.Forum posting is a good method of internet marketing followed by White Hat SEO. It follows a few guidelines and benefits from forum posting.

White Hat SEO is followed by websites which definitely want to be found by the user and do not believe only in generating traffic to the website. It provides sufficient information to the users. It has an attractive design and it is easy to navigate through it. It will also be linked to other quality websites. So, using White Hat SEO techniques, you can optimize a website. The growth will be slow, but you will definitely have a long lasting effect and the search engines will give you a high ranking.

While optimizing a site, a good article on a single term will be more profitable and will be less likely to be labeled a spam. The need is also to promote the site through proper links to generate traffic and get good rating.

Many people feel they cannot make money on the Internet today because they lack the proper marketing experience. As they look at existing Internet businesses they feel like the Internet is saturated and does not offer them the same opportunities it might have even a couple years ago.

This simply is not true because the Internet has only been around for a little over 10 years as a business tool. And when you look at the marketing experience some business people have, you can quickly see that everyone has the same opportunity today regardless of their current level of experience.

One of the easiest ways to get marketing experience is to subscribe to the RSS feeds of experienced Internet marketers. This is free to do and gives you the opportunity to be kept up to date on what more experienced marketers are doing.

You can choose to do this through your own RSS feed reader, or you can receive updates by email. This is a very passive way to learn and to become more experienced yourself.

Plus it gives you the incentive to learn a little bit more about your competitors before you subscribe to their feeds.

One other thing is to constantly be working on improving your Internet business. By implementing the things you learn you will find your own experience increases and you’ll develop a following of your own.

This is a quick and easy way for you to get marketing experience and begin making money online. Do not feel overwhelmed because of where you are currently are at, or what you see as insurmountable competition. If you have a home based business you want to promote on the Internet you need fresh leads on a consistent basis. One of the best ways to do that today is to use social media to get quality leads. Here are a couple of ways you can do that.

1. You should start your own blog that teaches people how to make money on the Internet. You can give away something for free on your blog that would encourage a visitor to give you their name and email address.

This is known as building an opt in list and is a fantastic way to use social media to create leads for future business. The main reason for this is once you have their name and email address you can leverage that to develop relationships and get to know your prospects as people.

This is much better than purchasing leads because the leads come from your blog. You get a chance to brand yourself as an expert and as a friend at the same time.

2. Social networking is another way to use social media to leverage leads. Two of the most popular social networks today are Facebook and Twitter.

With Facebook you can get to know other business professionals who are open to opportunities such as the one you offer. Twitter is an example of micro blogging and is quickly becoming a favorite way for people to develop friends and update their followers on what is happening in their lives and in their business.

This is two ideas on how to use social media to leverage leads to build your home based business.

This session was presented by Sean Jackson of Lead Maverick and Lee Odden of TopRank Online Marketing and covered the meeting of SEO and PR and how to take advantage of the tactics for maximum impact. Sean Jackson Sean explained that PR SEO is the “online communications that influence the purhase process of customers on search engines.” He shared a graphic of the purchase process and that you should target message to a specific place in the purchase process.

Search plays a role in every stage of the buying process. He emphasized the need for good content repeatedly as the real key to success. Lee Odden Lee calls the overlap between SEO and PR “Digital PR.” He mentioned that Google News is not the top news source- so reconsider where your news targets might be. 64% of journalists report that they use Google or Yahoo! online news services to follow the news in a particular beat, and he mentioned a quote by David Meerman Scott that said how Scott searches for data and news he wants – he doesn’t respond to email story pitches.

TopRank did a survey of publications and found that 82% of reporters use search for story ideas and 91% to learn about companies or people. 91% use standard search while only 27% use news search site. And social is growing – 27% are now using social search as well. Most use blogs (55%) and social networks (54%) to find sources. Most SEO conversations are about SEO for lead generation. News is a different animal. The focus audience may be different. It may be a journalist looking for a source or information. Lee also covered the fact that PR is partly a PUSH method, using wire services, networking, pitching and RSS, whereas PULL method is optmized press releases, social media and newsrooms.

To optimize press releases:

Research keywords

Optimize content

Call to action

Landing pages

Post to newsroom

Pitch to media

RSS

Wire service distribution

Measure success

More keys:

Think upward and to the left

Optimize for people first then search engines

Use keywords in the title, subheads and body

Don’t obsess over keyword density

In a 500 word release, use the target keyword 2-4 times

Use keywords in links to the company site

Add media, like images, podcast, video, PDF/word docs

Always get the metrics too:

Is it in Google and Yahoo news?

Pageviews?

Media and blog pickups

Inbound links

Social bookmarks

Keyword rankings

Corporate site traffic

Conversions: Sales/PR

Lee also commented that all websites need a newsroom, and they should contain:

press releases

media coverage

events

whitepapers

newsletters

media contact info

exec bios and photos

To optimize a newsroom for search:

blog post

comments/trackbacks

RSS

social bookmarks

Lee also touched on Digital Asset Optimization, which he has covered in past blog posts. Maximize all digital assets for PR, like images, video, case studies, etc. To build a newsroom:

Consider using blog software for the newsroom

Save/Share bookmarks

Make keyword categories

Offer chronological archives

Site search

RSS feed

Optimized for keywords

Include press releases, media coverage, events

Cross link to related pages on the main website
